Membership Types
The CSA is now accepting online applications for membership for Active/Senior and Candidate membership.
Active Member
$300 annual dues, plus $100 initiation fee
Applicant must meet all membership criteria, including but not limited to:
- Must either be certified by the American Board of Surgery or by an equivalent board, or be a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
- In special circumstances, Council may waive the requirement of certification by the American Board of Surgery or equivalent board or membership in the American College of Surgeons upon recommendation of the Membership Committee by a two-thirds affirmative vote.
- The applicant must show evidence of participation in activities that have a concern for the welfare of patients and the fostering of the advancement of surgical theory and practice.
- Must not have attained the age of 65.
- Active members vote at the Annual Business Meeting.
Candidate Member
No annual dues nor initiation fee
Applicant must meet all membership criteria, including but not limited to:
- Must either be a a trainee in surgical residency or in a surgical fellowship, or be a new graduate currently in the first two years of surgical practice (prior to American Board of Surgery or equivalent certification).
Provisions of Candidate Membership:
- Candidate members are only allowed to submit abstracts with sponsorship by an Active or Senior member, and are not eligible to act as sponsors for membership or abstract submission.
- Members may remain at the Candidate level while enrolled in a surgical fellowship; however, members may remain at the Candidate level for no more than three years post-residency.
- Upon being granted certification by the American Board of Surgeons or equivalent body, the Candidate Member shall notify the Membership Committee and expedited review of the individual’s application material will be performed to change the applicant's status to Active membership.
Senior Member
No annual dues, plus $100 initiation fee
- Must be an Active member in good standing who either has reached the age of sixty five (65) years, or has retired from clinical practice.
- Senior members are not bound by the requirement for attendance at meetings and are relieved of responsibility for paying dues.
