President's Message

It is a great honor to serve as your President. I would like to thank everyone who helped make the combined CSA and MSA meeting in Chicago a great success. In the midst of the pandemic, we were fortunate to be able to come together to further the practice of surgery through new knowledge, the exchange of ideas, and fellowship. The program featured great research, four outstanding presidential addresses, an excellent special lecture about preparing for pandemics, and a thought-provoking panel presentation from the CSA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force. I would like to thank Brian Harbrecht and the Program Committee as well as Jon Blackstone, LK Coughlin, April Abenilla, and the team from PRRI for their hard work in putting together such a terrific meeting.

Special thanks to our outgoing President, Michael Brunt, for outstanding leadership through a difficult time as well as outgoing Secretary, Matthew Walsh, for keeping us on track during their tenures. They each have left us with big shoes to fill. We congratulate and welcome Ronald Weigel as President-Elect, Wendy Wahl as Secretary, and Tracy Wang as Councilor. Melissa Times and Syed Ahmad will be leading the Program and Membership Committees respectively. Zahraa Al-Hilli will Chair the Young Surgeons Committee, and Jeffrey Wayne will check the books as Chair of Audit Committee. We also owe immense gratitude to Drs. Leena Khaitan and Anthony Stallion as founding leaders of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force. At the Annual Meeting, the Council and our membership approved a proposal for this task force to continue its important work as a permanent standing committee. I look forward to working with a great group of leaders.

As we all negotiate the current wave of the pandemic, please look forward to better times. Make plans to join us June 2-4, 2022 at the Saint Kate Arts Hotel in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Local Arrangements Chair Tracy Wang is already hard at work preparing a great venue and the local program. Melissa Times and the Program Committee are planning a fantastic meeting that you will not want to miss.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as the 2021-2022 Central Surgical Association President. Please donít hesitate to reach out to me if I may be of service in any way. I look forward to a great year.

Respectfully,

Timothy A. Pritts, MD, PhD
